According to a report in EON, 45 all-electric e6 sports utility vehicles officially joined Bogotá’s taxi fleet earlier this week thanks in part to the abolition of duties for electric vehicles being imported to Colombia. Speaking at a launch ceremony on Monday, city mayor Dr Gustavo Petro Urrero said the new BYD vehicles were part of Colombia’s BIOTAXIS Project, aimed at eventually replacing all conventional taxis with electric vehicles.

BYD to supply 50 electric cabs to London

Chinese automaker BYD has reached an agreement with taxi company Greentomatocars to provide London with its first fleet of all-electric cabs. London Mayor Boris Johnson voiced his approval of the deal, saying that the move is a step forward to the goal of a zero-emission taxi fleet in the UK capital by 2020.

Greentomatocars expects to have the electric cabs in service by mid-2013. The model chosen is the e6, which delivers around 100 horsepower and has a single-charge range of up to 186 miles.
