Electric vehicle sales surge

Cleantechnica reports Nissan enjoyed a 424% increase in April sales over the same month last year for the Leaf electric vehicle, an increase from 370 units to 1,937. Meanwhile Ford’s hybrid and electric vehicle sales were up 568% in April 2013 compared to April 2012, with 8,628 cars sold compared to 1,292 last year. GM, Honda, Porsche and Toyota’s numbers fell during the same period.

Overall, sales of hybrids and electric vehicles together grew 12.8% in April 2013 compared to April 2012. An interesting aspect to Cleantechnica’s analysis is the shift in sales from hybrids to 100% electric vehicles. Total sales for the former are significantly up, whilst poor sales of hybrids has brought down the combined figure.
